I found it especially enjoyable to listen to the music that Sheilia mentioned in the book. Must read for anyone who lives Mitchell, Simon, King, and/or the time period. Not only does this book give an in-depth view of these three great artists' lives, but also a look into the time period filled with sexual freedom, women's rights, and amazing music. I also loved finding out the background meaning to some of my favorite songs. I am truly a Joni Mitchell fan, but I found all their stories captivating. That generation truly altered United States history. Not only do we read about these three women, but the other great artists in their lives: James Taylor, David Crosby, Steven Stills, Graham Nash, Cat Stevens, etc and etc.
She loved this book because she learned things about Joni she wasn't aware of.I gained huge kudos for buying the book. I bought this book for my sister as a Christmas gift. She is a huge Joni Mitchell fan.
I was fascinated by these women, and I loved this book--Weller is a wonderful writer. If you grew up on the music of Carly Simon, Joni Mitchell and Carole King, you'll love this layered look at the women who created some of the most enduring and beloved hits in the history of music. If you didn't--and indeed, their heyday was a bit before my time--you'll want to run out and buy their albums as soon as you finish this fascinating tome, as I did, if only to listen to their music with a new sense of wonder.
The writing was pretty awful. The book was definitely fun to read - I loved reading all the stories behind the music. I just wish Sheila Weller were a better writer.
My wife loves this book and she said that she now looks at these ladies in a new light and more favorable because she understands them better now.And by the way, she is a bio freak so that speaks well for this book.
